chapter 1

I GOT THIS PICTURE FROM GOOGLE IMAGES

THIS PICTURE REMINDED ME OF THE CHARACTER GLORIA CHAVEZ IN CHAPTER ONE. SHE IS A STRONG FEMALE WHO STOOD UP FOR HER BELIEFS. SOME PEOPLE MAY HAVE THOUGHT HER ACTIONS WERE TO RADICAL BUT HER CHARACTER IS SO FILLED WITH PASSION AND RAGE THAT SHE DOESN'T CARE. THE REASON WHY THIS CHAPTER STOOD OUT TO ME WAS BECAUSE IT IS SO FILLED WITH IRONY. THE CHURCH WHO PREACHES ABOUT GOD, PEACE, AND LOVE FOR ONE ANOTHER WAS SHUTTING OUT ITS OWN CHILDREN. INSTEAD OF WITNESSING JOY ON THAT CHRISTMAS EVE IN 1969, THE CHURCH AND ITS FOLOWERS BOTH THE ACCEPTED AND THE UNACCEPTED WITNESSED BLOODY VIOLENCE. ALTHOUGH VIOLENCE IS TAKING PLACE THE ACCEPTED FOLLOWERS DECIDE TO IGNORE IT ALL AND LET THE "PIGS" TAKE CARE OF IT ALL.
WHAT I WILL REMEMBER MOST ABOUT THIS CHAPTER IS THE SCENE WHEN THE BEAUTIFUL CHICANA MILITANT, GLORIA CHAVEZ, RUNS TOWARD THE FRONT OF THE CHURCH. AS SHE DESTROYS AND SPILLS THE WAFERS AND WINE SHE SCREAMS OUT "QUE VIVA LA RAZA!!"

  1. i liked gloria chavez too!!! i thought she was down..

ive seen this picture in a book..i forgot what it's called but it tells the stories of these women who would go out and fight alongside men in the mexican revolution. i think that's the way a revolution should be, a mujer should be able to go out and fight in the same battles as men, not just stay behind and watch..

  2. This picture is a symbol for strong women every where. Instead of staying home, she contributes to the cause that she believes in. She makes her voice heard. This picture does represent Gloria Chavez a way that they both fight for what they believe in. They both do not let their gender limit their actions.

  3. I agree that this picture is like Gloria in chapter one. She is strong and bold in this picture, just as is Gloria in the book.
